Hey all,
Apologies for the lack of updates, but I have had a very busy and productive last few months. First, I interned at the world-famous Nickelodeon Animation Studio! Second, I took a class in Entertainment Design (visual development / concept art) at the Art Center College of Design! Both were wildly educational, if exhausting. I met so many wonderful people and was so challenged and inspired.
These days, I have been freelancing like crazy and working toward getting in at a studio (preferably back at Nick, but any work is good work). I have been doing a lot of character design and some other comics projects. More on those as things are released!
Anyway, I know you come here for the pretty pictures, so here are selections of what I’ve been up to. Also, don’t forget that if you’re looking for my portfolio it’s online at http://samtung.carbonmade.com !

Little witch girl (intentionally a takeoff of Havery Comics' Wendy Witch) for a short comic for Matt O'Keefe. www.mattwritesstuff.com
As always, thanks for looking! More updates soon. Please contact me if you are interested in commission / freelance work!
Trying to work on my environment design. A good tip I learned was to work on 2-3 sketches at the same time — you can go back and forth between them if you’re struggling with one, and you get three different images at the end of your work period. In this instance I did two separate locations, but this works well for doing, say, three different camera angles of the same location, or doing a variety of locations.

Evan Valentine and I will have a 7-page story in the October Horror volume of The Gathering. I’m sure I’ll make lots of noise when it’s available for purchace.
Fun fantasty desktop for my D&D game.
Cool news coming soon, I have a big fall coming up involving the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and Nickelodeon, and maybe some good Monstersitter news. Keep your eyes and ears peeled!
Here are a few (3 and 6 of 7 total) pencilled pages I got asked to do for an upcoming GrayHaven Comics anthology. I’m working again with Evan Valentine, and it’s a follow-up to our piece from last year.
Obviously it still needs inks and colors. I believe this anthology will be released in October.
I will be attending the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. Wish me luck in finding work!
Logo/Mascot/Character Designs for a Los Angeles-based Chessboxing League. The idea is that there are different ships, shaped like chess pieces, in an intergalactic war that battle it out. Upon capture, the crews of the ships (the above astronauts and robot friends) knock the crap out of each other in boxing matches.
I’m pretty happy with both the Knight-Mech and the Astronaut designs, and I like the simple color palette swaps.
Here’s to jobs I actually got paid for!
Some revised Chrome pages; Adobe Photoshop on a Wacom Cintiq
Red Scare character / costume designs; Adobe Photoshop on a Wacom BambooTablet
Hey all,
Still plugging away, drawing comics, and scouring for work. Above is some new stuff — Chrome is being redrawn in its entirety on a Wacom Cintiq. I did some storyboards and character design for the upcoming Red Scare web series, which you should support if you have a spare dollar. Next month is the San Diego Comic Con, where I’ll be in attendance doing portfolio reviews with every company that will take me.
I have some new portfolio spaces around the web, which on one hand seems a little redundant and on the other hand is just more places to potentially be seen. You can find me, in addition to this blog, at the following sites:
